# What Receipt?

> What Receipt? is a receipt scanner and expense organizer for freelancers, small businesses and households. It captures receipts from your phone camera, photos, PDFs and your Gmail inbox, reads the vendor, date, total, tax and payment method automatically, files each receipt by vendor, category and project, and exports clean CSV, Excel, and Zoho Books, QuickBooks Online and Xero import files for your accountant. The web app is open now (free for 30 receipts a month, no card needed) and works in any browser on phone or desktop; iPhone and Android apps are coming. There is also a one-time-purchase Mac app that runs entirely offline.

Key facts:

- Capture: camera (several shots in a row), photos, screenshots, PDFs, and Gmail auto-import (read-only; also pulls the last 90 days on connect; new receipts arrive within minutes).
- Organizing: vendor names are normalized, categories learn from your corrections, every receipt is assigned to a project (e.g. Business vs Personal).
- Insights: spending over time by category, vendor or project; flags recurring charges that stopped showing up.
- Subscriptions: finds every subscription that emails a receipt (no bank login required) and shows the month by day: when each one bills, the expected amount (a range for usage-based bills such as cloud hosting), whether the receipt has arrived, price increases, subscriptions that look cancelled, and a monthly run rate with yearly renewals spread across the year.
- Exports: CSV, multi-sheet Excel workbook, and import files for Zoho Books, QuickBooks Online (bank upload) and Xero (bills).
- Privacy: receipts are stored privately; with your permission, images are sent to an AI model once to read fields and are not used for training; Gmail access is read-only and only receipt messages are kept; disconnecting Gmail deletes the stored token and message index.
- Pricing: Free ($0, 30 receipts a month, CSV export). Pro ($6.99/month or $59/year; people who want to pay more can choose $9.99 or $13.99 a month for the same Pro: unlimited receipts, Gmail auto-import, full-history insights and subscription calendar, Excel, Zoho, QuickBooks and Xero exports, sync across phone, web and Mac). Mac Privacy Edition ($29 one-time: runs entirely on your Mac, no account or cloud, Apple Vision OCR, optional local AI).
- Mail: a private forwarding address for any mailbox (Outlook and others); on Pro, Gmail connects directly, as do iCloud, Yahoo, AOL, Fastmail and Zoho Mail over IMAP with an app password.
- Accountant links (every plan): one read-only web address that shows your accountant the receipts you choose, with totals, images and a CSV download, no account needed; revoke it any time.
